Unsubscribing and turning email back on

Every email Scout sends carries a one-click unsubscribe, the kind your mail program shows as an Unsubscribe link beside the sender's name. This article explains what that link stops, what it does not stop, and how to start the email again — including the one case where support has to clear a block for you.

What the unsubscribe link does

Using the unsubscribe link in a morning brief turns your morning brief off. That is all it does, and it takes effect immediately — no confirmation page, no sign-in required. It is exactly the same as setting Frequency to Off in the Morning Brief card under Settings → Workspace → Notifications.

What it does not do:

  • It does not close your account or remove you from the workspace.
  • It does not change your Inbox. Every point Scout raises is still there when you sign in.
  • It does not stop item update emails — the messages about work assigned to you and items you follow. Those are a separate setting, in the Item Updates card on the same page.
  • It does not stop invitations or other one-off account mail.

Scout will not use the link to change anyone else's settings, and it cannot be used to unsubscribe a colleague: the link is sealed to the person it was sent to, and simply opening it in a browser does not change anything.

Turning email back on

  1. Sign in and open Settings → Workspace → Notifications.
  2. In the Morning Brief card, use the header switch, or set Frequency to Weekdays, Every day, or Workspace default.
  3. Check Delivery time, Time zone and Send rule while you are there.
  4. Choose Save changes.

For item updates, do the same in the Item Updates card: switch the group on, tick Email for Assigned to me and Items I follow, and save that card separately.

When support has to clear a block

There is one situation you cannot fix from the settings page. If your mail system rejected a message, or somebody marked a Scout email as spam, or your address landed on a suppression list, Scout stops sending to that address and records why. Continuing to send after a hard rejection damages deliverability for everyone in your workspace, so the stop is deliberate and it is not lifted by toggling the setting back on.

You will see it in the delivery status line at the bottom of the Morning Brief card, in one of three forms:

  • Morning brief paused — "This address rejected a message. Correct the address, then contact support to clear delivery."
  • Morning brief paused — "Delivery stopped after a spam complaint. Contact support before turning it back on."
  • Morning brief paused — "This address is on the delivery suppression list. Contact support to review it."

To clear one:

  1. Fix the underlying problem first — correct the address on your profile if it was wrong, or ask whoever marked the mail as spam to unmark it.
  2. Contact Scout support and say which address is blocked and which of the three messages you are seeing.
  3. Once support clears it, the card shows Delivery pause cleared and your normal schedule resumes.

Other statuses on that line are not blocks and need nothing from you: Delivery delayed means the receiving system has not accepted the latest brief yet and Scout is still watching it; Delivery needs review means Scout could not prove whether the message was accepted, so it deliberately will not resend and risk a duplicate.

Good to know

  • Your recipient address comes from the verified email on your Scout sign-in, not from a field somebody typed into the workspace. Changing it there is what changes where the brief goes.
  • Scout does not track opens or clicks in its email, so unsubscribing is the only signal it takes from a message.
  • Viewers can manage their own delivery preferences, including unsubscribing and re-enabling.
  • If you want no email but still want to be told things, turn email off and tick Slack instead on the Item Updates card, once your Slack account is linked.
