Rating a point: Useful, Not useful, Wrong

Every point — one item Scout raised with the proof behind it — can be given a verdict: Useful, Not useful or Wrong. It takes one click, and it is the single most effective thing you can do to make Scout better at your book.

How to rate a point

  1. Open the point in your Inbox.
  2. At the bottom of the detail panel, beside Handled, choose Useful, Not useful or Wrong.
  3. A confirmation appears: Marked Useful — Scout will learn from this feedback.
A point open in the Inbox with the Useful, Not useful and Wrong buttons beneath the prepared draft.

On a phone or tablet you can rate without opening the point: swipe the row to reveal the same three marks plus a close action.

Rating is not the same as closing. A verdict says whether the point was worth raising; Handled and Dismiss say what happened to the work. You can do both, in either order — see Working an item. You can also change a verdict later; the current one stays highlighted.

What each verdict means

Verdict Use it when
Useful Scout was right and you are glad it said something. The proof holds up and the item deserved your attention.
Not useful Scout was correct but this is not something you need. The invoice really is late; you already know, and you do not want to be told. Nothing here is a mistake — it is noise for you.
Wrong Scout was mistaken. The account moved to a house brand so there is no reorder window; the proof does not support the claim; the two records are not the same customer. This is a correction.

The difference between the middle two matters more than it looks. Not useful means "turn it down"; Wrong means "that is not true". Only Wrong counts against a Watch's accuracy.

Where verdicts show up

  • Found. Point precision on the Found page is built from these verdicts — for example 14/16 useful · 1 not useful · 1 wrong — and See every point lists each point with the verdict it was given and what happened to it. A tile in the Inbox carries the same figure.
  • What didn't count. A point marked wrong is excluded from the Found totals and appears in that section with your reason, so the ledger says out loud what it left out.
  • Settings → Watches. Every Watch row shows a thirty-day accuracy figure, and Needs attention collects any enabled Watch whose accuracy has fallen below 85 percent.
  • The Watch effectiveness report. What Scout has caught pairs each Watch's counts with the thresholds that produced them, which is how you decide what to tune. See The Watch effectiveness report.
  • The Settled archive. The verdict travels with the point's receipt, so you can search past work by how it was judged.

How accuracy is calculated

Accuracy is useful divided by useful plus wrong. Points marked Not useful are left out of the calculation entirely — they are a volume signal, not a correctness one. With no verdict in either category there is no figure at all, and the column shows a dash rather than a misleading 100 percent.

Good to know

  • A verdict is recorded on the point, not on you. It is not a private preference — your teammates see the same mark, and the workspace's accuracy figures include it.
  • Marking something Wrong can retire that kind of point for that account. It is the fastest way to stop a mistake repeating.
  • A dismissal with a note is also feedback. If a whole category of point is not for you, the better move is usually to widen its threshold or turn the Watch off in Settings → Watches.
  • Rate as you go rather than in a batch. A verdict given while the item is fresh is the one that is accurate.
  • Scout does not rate its own points. Every figure on Found and in the effectiveness report comes from a person.
